Take A Journey with Donia Kristy

My work centers on Black identity because it is the core of who I am and the lens through which I experience the world. Through acrylic, charcoal, and my recent exploration into oil paint, I create images that reflect the way I see myself and the people who shaped me. My art moves between themes of Black femininity, resilience, softness, symbolism, and everyday authenticity—capturing both the strength and the quiet humanity within Black life.

I draw inspiration from life, books, politics, culture, and the complex connections that form our shared human experience. Each piece is a reflection of the belief that everything is connected, and I aim for viewers to feel a sense of normalcy and reassurance when they engage with my work. I want them to feel less uncertain, less insecure, and more grounded in the understanding that our stories and emotions are intertwined.

As a self-taught artist, I am committed to deepening my understanding of the craft while expanding the ways I express identity and meaning. Ultimately, I hope to leave behind a new perspective—one that honors the past, speaks honestly about the present, and helps shape a more connected future.
